Ladonna Mathis and her two children ages 2 and 4 were shot in killed in their home in Mount Vernon, South Dakota. Ladonna's husband, John was shot in the arm but survived the attack. John stated that a masked man committed the crime, but law enforcement saw him as the prime suspect. John was acquitted a year later by a jury.
