In 2001, Termaine Hicks was convicted of sexual assault after police responding to a 911 call mistook him for the attacker of the woman he was trying to help. The police shot him three times, but conspired to cover up their mistake. After 19 years behind bars, Hicks was released and started a non-profit organization called STEPUP-Selfless Thinking Expresses Potential That Uplifts People. His goal is to curb gun violence among youth.
