Mary Schlais was found dead with fifteen stab wounds in 1974 at age 25. She was on her way to Chicago for an art show when she went missing. A witness observed a man in a small car throwing her body into a ditch. In 2009 her body was exhumed to get DNA samples as these methods were not available when Mary was killed. The witness said the killer was a white male, 6 ft tall, with auburn hair and a thick mustache. Randall Woodfield, a former Green Bay Packer, was discovered to be the I-5 killer and was linked to 44 murders. It was thought that Mary was one of these victims, however, this has never been confirmed. This case is still cold, and no further leads have been pursued.
