River Phoenix died on October 31st, 1993, of a heroin overdose. He was at a nightclub with several friends and his girlfriend when he told a friend he didn't feel well and felt that he had overdosed. A few minutes later Phoenix said he felt fine and did not want to leave. Not long after, there was a commotion in the club. Phoenix was laying on the sidewalk having convulsions. By the time the ambulance arrived, Phoenix was in cardiac arrest. Attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
