In 1976, Ronnie Long was wrongfully convicted of raping a prominent white woman in North Carolina. Now 68 years old, Long spent 44 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. The prosecution’s main piece of evidence was the victim’s identification of Long weeks after the attack and that it was "the product of a suggestive identification procedure arranged by the police to target Long." Long was awarded a $25 million dollar settlement after spending over half of his life behind bars.
