14.9% of adolescents have been bullied online in the United States this year and 13.6% have made serious suicide attempts. Many parents allow their children access to social media without the knowledge of what really happens when teenagers spend copious amounts of time on different apps. Kids are mean anyway, but to mix that with social media and allowing them to become "keyboard warriors" is more dangerous than just bullying at school. Online, pictures can be shared, and information can go viral causing a much broader audience. As a parent myself, I recommend checking your children's social media accounts every so often as well as limiting the time they are allowed to spend online. Cyberbullying can be done on any app, not just one in particular, it is always smart to do random "phone checks" to ensure your children are being safe.
