Betty Lou Beets was 62 years old when she was executed in the United States after the supreme Court allowed the death penalty to resume in 1976. She killed her fifth husband Jimmy because she said that he abused her but was dubbed the Black widow stating that she only wanted his money. She also was charged with killing her fourth husband but never convicted and she had previously shot and wounded her second husband. The bodies of her last two husbands were found buried in her yard in gun barrel City, Texas in 1985. They had both been shot in the head several times. She was then charged with killing both of these men as well after already receiving the death penalty for the murder of Jimmy. She denied murdering these men but her actual children testified against her in court and said that she killed them to collect insurance and pension money. Beets has five children, nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren and was the oldest person to be executed in the state.
